Apply Now Programs Go to my Dashboard Los Angeles Unified School District is both a traditional school system and a choice-based system, which means ANY and EVERY student can attend their neighborhood school of residence OR apply to schools of choice that offer specialized programs within the District. Inter-District Permits Inter-District permits allow parents from one school district to attend schools in another school district. INCOMING INTER-DISTRICT PERMITS (OPEN YEAR ROUND - BEGINNING February 1) Incoming Inter-District Permit applications are requests to allow students that reside within the boundaries of a school district other than the LAUSD to attend a school within the LAUSD. OUTGOING INTER-DISTRICT PERMITS (Application Period 2/1 - 4/30) Outgoing Inter-District permit applications are requests for students that reside within the boundaries of the LAUSD to attend a school outside of the LAUSD. Apply Magnet Magnet Programs vary by theme and are court-ordered voluntary integration opportunities available to students in grades K-12 living within the LAUSD boundaries. Designed for students to reach advanced levels of academic and language proficiency in both languages and gain sociocultural understanding and competency. All students living within and outside of LAUSD boundaries are eligible to apply. Students residing outside of LAUSD boundaries must obtain an Incoming Inter-District Permit upon accepting a placement. All students benefit and thrive in Dual Language Education Programs especially English Learners who speak other languages. The primary purpose of SAS is to establish and nurture gifted/talented demonstration sites at resident schools, in order to share innovative, equitable, and effective GATE practices Districtwide. By providing high-quality differentiated instruction with an emphasis on depth, complexity, acceleration and novelty, SAS sites offer high-level academic opportunities that meet the unique educational needs of K–12 gifted learners, identified in the Intellectual, High Achievement, Specific Academic, Creative and Leadership Ability categories or verified based on critical thinking/achievement. Students residing within the SAS site’s boundaries: Students residing within the school boundaries of a designated SAS site who meet the eligibility criteria must be placed in the site’s SAS gifted/talented program (unless a parent has opted out). All qualified students residing within school boundaries must be accommodated before any applicants from outside school boundaries are enrolled. No formal application is required for a qualified student residing within school boundaries since SAS is the school site’s GATE instructional program for its students. (Parents/guardians may contact the SAS site directly for more information.) Students residing outside the SAS site’s boundaries (but within L.A. Unified boundaries): All L.A. Unified students in grades Pre-K–12 who reside outside school boundaries and who meet one of three eligibility criteria are eligible to apply for SAS participation through the Choices process. For SAS applicants, the teacher and principal of a student’s current school of attendance are responsible for determining if the student meets at least one of the three eligibility criteria. Anyone outside of the resident attendance boundary can apply. Resident attendance boundary families should enroll directly at the school. ON-TIME TIMELINE 2020-21: October 1 - November 15, 2019: Choices Application Period March 2020 Placements are announced Zones of Choice (ZOC) Matriculating 5th and 8th grade students residing within a Zones of Choice may rank their school options in order of preference. Zones of Choice are identified as geographic areas comprised of multiple school options (middle schools and high schools). Based on your home address, your child’s home school will be one of the school options that make up your residential Zone of Choice. Students residing in a Zone of Choice are eligible to attend ANY school in the Zone. Please visit the Zones of Choice website where you can find more information and brochures on the school options available by clicking on the link for you Zone of Choice. ON-TIME TIMELINE 2020-21: October 1 - November 15, 2019: ALL matriculating 8th grade students living in a Zone of Choice will rank their high school options in the computer lab at their current middle school. Parents must approve and sign their child’s selections and return the form to the middle school. NEW – Parents of matriculating 5th grade students residing in the South Gate Zone of Choice will rank their middle school options at their current elementary school sites or by using their Apply.Lausd.Net parent acco...
